Accessibility Policy for Customer Service

PURPOSE

 

Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), all public and private sector organizations must meet the requirements of accessibility standards established by the Integrated Accessibility Standard Regulations (IASR).

 

Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. is committed to providing goods and services in an equal and integrated manner that respects the dignity and independence of persons with disabilities. Any and all communication with a person with a disability must be done in a manner that takes into account the person’s disability.

Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. is committed to complying with both the Ontario Human Rights Code and the AODA by eliminating barriers to accessibility and ensuring equal access and participation for people with disabilities. We are committed to meeting the needs of all people with disabilities, and treating these individuals in a way that allows for them to maintain their dignity and independence.

POLICY STATEMENTS:

Assistive Devices

Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. permits persons with disabilities to use their personal assistive devices while on the company’s premises.  In cases where the assistive device presents a significant and unavoidable health or safety concern or may not be permitted for other reasons, other measures will be used to ensure the person with a disability can access our goods, services or facilities.

Communication

Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. is committed to communicating with persons with disabilities in ways that take into account their disability.  We will work with the person with a disability to determine what method of communication works for them.

Service Animals and Support Persons

Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. welcomes onto its premises service animals and support persons upon whom persons with disabilities rely.

A service animal can be easily identified through visual indicators, such as when it wears a harness or a vest, or when it helps the person perform certain tasks.  When we cannot easily identify that an animal is a service animal, our staff may ask a person to provide documentation from a regulated health professional that confirms the person needs the service animal for reasons relating to their disability.

Notice of Temporary Disruption

In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to services or facilities for customers with disabilities, Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. will notify customers promptly. This clearly posted notice will Include information about the reason for the disruption, its anticipated length of time, and a description of alternative facilities or services, if available.

Training of Employees

Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. will provide training to all employees regarding our policies and ways to ensure accessible programs, goods, services and workplace.  Training will occur on an ongoing basis and whenever changes are made to relevant policies, practices and procedures.

This Accessibility Plan describes how Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. will meet the requirements of the IASR in the areas of Information and Communications, Employment, and Design of Public Spaces.

SELF SERVE KIOSKS:

Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. is committed to incorporating accessibility features and considering accessibility needs for people with disabilities when designing, procuring, or acquiring self-serve kiosks, which includes POS devices. 

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS:

Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. is committed to providing or arranging accessible formats and communication supports for persons with disabilities upon request, in a timely manner that takes into account the person’s disability.  We will consult with the person making the request to determine their information and communication needs.

We will take steps to ensure that all web content will conform to WCAG 2.0 Level A, and WCAG 2.0 Level AA by January 1 2021.

We will ensure that feedback processes are accessible to persons with disabilities upon request.

EMPLOYMENT:

Recruitment and Selection

As part of the recruitment process, Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. will indicate on job postings that, upon request, accommodation is available for applicants with disabilities.  If an applicant requires accommodation, we will consult with the applicant and provide a suitable accommodation, taking into account the applicant’s accessibility needs.

Accessible Formats and Communications Support

Upon request, Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. will consult with employees to arrange for or provide accessible formats and communication supports for information that is needed to perform the employee’s job, and any information generally available to employees in the workplace.

Accommodation Plan and Return to Work Process

Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. has revised the company Accommodation and Return to Work plan to comply with the AODA.

Performance Management and Job Development

Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. will review and consider individual accommodation plans or accessibility needs when conducting performance appraisals for the purpose of performance management and career development.

DESIGN OF PUBLIC SPACES

Nella Cutlery & Food Equipment Inc. will meet accessibility requirements when constructing or making major modifications to public spaces, which include accessible parking, outdoor paths of travel, and services related elements such as counters and public washrooms.
